In May of 2014, The Dead Connection crew went to Atlanta to visit the set of Terminus. We had the pleasure of meeting the one and only, Greg Nicotero. I wanted to know a little bit more about the man behind the Walkers, and the information I found is quite impressive.
Mr. Nicotero first worked on the classic zombie movie, Day of the Dead. From there he went on to work on many, many other projects. In 2006 he won an Academy Award for his work on The Chronicles of Narnia; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Wow! We really met an Oscar winner?! If that doesn’t impress you, he also won an Emmy for SciFy’s mini-series, Dune. He also did the effects/make up on Kill Bill (Vol 1&2), Oz, the Great and Powerful, Transformers, and about 75 other films and TV shows. He is not limited to science fiction. His career is vast and encompasses all genres of movies and TV. We often recognize the quality cast that is present on The Walking Dead, but even more so than that-there is a genius at work. This true artist wears many hats behind the scenes. He is credited with special Effects and Make Up, Co-executive Producer, sometimes Director, and has been know to pose as a Walker himself.
When we met Mr. Nicotero, he was directing the Season 5 premiere (No Sanctuary aka- The Terminus episode). He was super nice, we simply smiled, and waved him over. He crossed the barricades posed for a few pics and signed our The Walking Dead: Volume 1 for us. I did happen to have the sense to mention to him that he is a genius during our all too short visit with him. We hope to enjoy the benefits of his skill and craft for many more seasons!
I hope you enjoy our set stories, we have many more to share as Season 5 progresses! -Carrie
