Season 8 is set to begin filming on May 1st! Here’s what we know:
Pollyanna McIntosh (Jadis), Steven Ogg (Simon) and Katelyn Nacon (Enid) have all been promoted to series regulars this season. Read about that news here.
Scott M. Gimple says this season will be set at a faster pace than season 7. He tells Entertainment Weekly “By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict, says Gimple, “it’s going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck — shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together.” He also says, “I remember talking about that with [co-executive producer] Angela Kang early on in season 7,” says Gimple. “Because we knew the way that 7 was going to be structured, and we knew we wanted to mix it up in 8, and we knew what 8 was going to be and how that would dictate a very different kind of structure anyways. So, yeah, things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on.”
Episode 801 will be TWD’s 100th episode! Can you believe 100 shows ago Rick Grimes was waking up from his coma to find that ZA had begun? Greg Nicotero will direct this one, so you know it will be great! Andrew Lincoln told Comicbook.com “We are going to have to come and bring one of the greatest episodes we’ve ever attempted, and we’re going to start the season with it. And, it will be the hundredth episode, which is one of the greatest…I was very happy with the pilot.” He added, “It’s a huge milestone and, you know, it will be a big deal because there’s a lot of the crew and a few of the cast left that have trudged all of those hard and sweaty and bloody miles together. So, it’s a huge achievement and I know I’m sure, Scott Gimple, four years ago, had it planned that we would be starting a full-scale war on the hundredth episode.” He goes on to tell Entertainment Weekly, “This is not hyperbole. This is not a cynical act to try and amp up enthusiasm for the hundredth episode in season 8, but I am genuinely more excited about this next episode and the following 15 than I’ve ever been in my life. I can’t wait to get back.” #100 has been promised to be “bigger, it’s gonna be more intense. I always mean that, but this year it’s the same thing – more intense,” Gimple said.
It looks like we will see two new faces on The Walking Dead! According to TVLine a description for two male, recurring cast members has been released. “AMC’s monster smash is casting two new recurring good guys: Dillon, a sexy, blue-collar twenty-something whose survival skills include sarcasm, and Abbud, an innately likable Muslim American whose nerves are, let’s say, jangled, because he’s flown solo for too long in zombieland. Of the pair, the former is likelier to survive the looming conflict — not only does Dillon sound like a less jerky Spencer, but the casting notice for the roles hints that the actor chosen might get picked up for subsequent seasons.”
The cast & crew has been gathering in Georgia over the past two weeks in preparation for the start of filming. We love this time of year! Check this awesome pic from Tammy McIntyre with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus!
